Because ECT is not used to treat anxiety, it is not appropriate for persons who only have an anxiety condition. People with comorbid depression and anxiety may benefit from ECT.
Even if they believe ECT could assist them, not everyone is a candidate for treatment. Children under the age of eleven, for example, are not eligible for ECT treatment for mental health issues. ECT treatments should be avoided by those with heart issues and those who cannot tolerate brief sedatives or muscle relaxants.
