rTMS is considered in decreasing symptoms of anxiety in people with anxiety disorders such as Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) or other co-morbid conditions such as depression with anxiety symptoms.
Usually rTMS is a safe and well-tolerated treatment option with mild and temporary side effects. However, it may not be suitable for individuals with certain medical conditions such as having metal implants in the body, being pregnant, having mental health disorders such as bipolar disorder, psychosis, or substance abuse, a history of seizures, frequent/ severe headaches, brain damage, etc. Moreover, a physical examination and a psychiatric evaluation is a must before considering rTMS as a treatment intervention.
The number of rTMS sessions required depends on the severity of the individual’s condition and their response to the rTMS treatment.
